Phil Esposito’s Rampage On The NHL Record Book

Posted on Monday, December 21, 2009 in Entertainment

Although many of his offensive records have now been left in the dust by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, former Boston Bruins/New York Rangers center Phil Esposito is still regarded by hockey experts as one of the greatest players in NHL history. He’s forever enshrined in hockey’s hall of fame along with brother, goaltender Tony Esposito.

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Esposito was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as a teenager. After some time in junior hockey, he was called up to the NHL in’64 quickly earning a spot on the teams top line between Bobby Hull and Marcel Dionne. In’67, Esposito was traded to the Boston Bruins along with Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield.

It wasnt long before Esposito started to destroy long standing NHL records. In’69, he became the first NHL player to top the 100 point mark (combined goals and assists) for the season”he obliterated the record with 126 points, which would be the first of six times that hed top the century mark. He topped 100 points in five straight seasons between’71 and’75, missing a sixth straight season by a single point with 99 in’70. Bruins fans were fond of displaying car bumper stickers that read Jesus Saves; Esposito scores on the rebound.

UFC 85 Flashback: Alves, Bisping Win

Posted on Thursday, December 3, 2009 in Entertainment

A day after failing to make weight for his fight against Matt Hughes, Thiago Alves dominated the former UFC welterweight champion en route to a 2nd round TKO victory. The main event at UFC 85 in London was somewhat anticlimactic to the fans at the O2 Arena who considered the semifinal matchup between Manchesters Michael Bisping and Jason Day the biggest fight on the card. Bisping actually improved upon his excellent showing against Charles McCarthy at UFC 83 and pummeled Day mercilessly from the top mount position until the fight was stopped just past the 3 minute mark of the first round.

Hughes didnt make any excuses following his one sided loss, saying simply that hes a good fighter and he got me. The longtime king of the UFCs welterweight division also gave notice that his career as an active fighter was drawing to a close, suggesting that he had one fight left and challenging Matt Serra in what presumably would be his retirement match. Hughes had no answer for Alves from the opening horn, as he was stuffed on several takedown attempts early on. When he did finally get his opponent to the ground he was unable to do much damage. Alves, conversely, scored effectively with his striking including several damaging knee strikes. He also did considerable work on the ground, with an elbow strike opening up a large cut on Hughes forehead. Though he didnt get to his knees a la Georges St. Pierre, Alves did make a plea to Dana White for a title shot. His failure to make weight wont help his cause, however, and judging from the UFC Presidents incredulous smirk in response that opportunity wont be immediately forthcoming.

The end came early in the 2nd round as Hughes was caught coming in by a devastating knee strike. He fell to the canvas in a heap and referee Herb Dean was jumping in to stop the contest before Alves could follow up with any punches.

Don’t Let Rakeback or MultiTabling Effect Your Growth as a Poker Player

Posted on Thursday, November 26, 2009 in Entertainment

People play poker for a lot of different reasons. Some play for the competition, some for the social aspect, and some play for the pure fun of the game. When these players sit down an play poker they generally don’t mind much if they loose a few bucks. This is the price of entertainment for some players. Other players play strictly for the money. This group of players is all business and have only one goal in mind. The reality of it is that most of play the game for some combination of reasons and money is on most of our minds to some extent or another.

If your main motivation at the poker table is money, you should be looking to improve your poker at all times and move up to bigger games. Bigger games are where the bigger money is at and if that is your motivation, you need to stay focused. With the higher stakes generally comes tougher competition. If you continue to evolve as a poker player you should grow as a player along with your bankroll so that you will be ready when you get to the bigger games. Unfortunately there are some traps for online poker players that often stunt the growth of a player and prevent them from ever making it to the big game.

An easy trap to fall into as an online player is what I refer to as “The MultiTable Trap”. This is when a low limit player continues to add more and more tables to his daily routine instead of focusing on moving up the ladder to the real prize. Low limit grinders may find that they can beat 1/2 limit holdem for 1 big bet or more per hundred hands. They start to think about playing 6 tables at once. How about 8, 10, or 12 tables at a time. Before long they have 4 monitors hooked up to their computer and they’re playing 16 tables at once. While this may be a decent income, I guarantee you’re not improving your poker. There is very little time to think when you play this many tables and zero time to learn anything. You are playing ABC poker against very poor opposition. Your bankroll will grow and you will have the money to move up in limits before too long assuming that you can maintain your winrate with that many tables. Unfortunately your skill level will not be ready and you will find yourself back in the kiddy pool trying to recoup your losses over and over.

A Small Collection Of Useful Hollywood Movie Outlines To Look At

Posted on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Entertainment

For a long time we have used the video store as one of our main ways to access movies. Now, with internet usage exploding, movie downloads are becoming very popular. Let’s look at what you might find to watch using a movie download site.

Cuba Crossing: Our lead man Stuart Whitman becomes embroiled in a plot to take out Fidel Castro. Filmed in Key West, Florida, and a minimum of the landscape is pretty. Cast includes Stuart Whitman, Robert Vaughn, Caren Kaye, Raymond St. Jacques, Woody Strode, Sybil Danning, Albert Salmi, and Michael Gazzo. (90 minutes,’80)

Genealogies of a Crime: Deneuve is beaming in a twin role as the attorney for, and victim of, a strange youthful gentleman who’s implicated of killing his psychiatrist mother’s sibling after she supposedly subjected him to drastic mind-control therapy. Well-performed although conceited, deliberately perplexing blend of puzzle, satire, and surrealism; hoaxed up with pointless flashbacks within flashbacks and other narrative and graphic gimmicks. Cast includes Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Melvil Poupaud, Andrzej Seweryn, and Bernadette LaFont. (114 minutes,’97)

Acoustic Guitar Lessons - Find Them Online And Locally

Posted on Monday, November 23, 2009 in Music

Acoustic Guitar Lessons are easily found just about anywhere. There are teachers in most towns that teach from music stores or from their own home. Many schools offer group guitar lessons or you may find a group lesson at a local church. Acoustic Guitar Lessons can be found on the Internet in both informative article lessons and video lessons.

One of the easiest instruments to play is the guitar because the notes progress on the frets by half steps. If you understand the distances between the notes and how to use your fingers on the frets it is possible to know just where all the notes are located and to make it even easier, there is more than one place to make each note.

Acoustic Guitar differs from Electric guitar in several different ways. The first and most obvious way is that the acoustic guitar is made from wood and has a wider body than an electric guitar which is thin and made of metal. Another difference is that the Acoustic Guitar usually does not have the ability, although in some cases it can, to be amplified internally where as an electric guitar does.

A Selection Of Various Film Outlines To Go Over

Posted on Sunday, November 22, 2009 in Entertainment

For years now, the video store was the way to get movies. You can now save a trip to the video store and download movies right off the internet. Following is a list of a few movies that you can get using a movie download site.

So I Married an Axe Murderer: A man who’s never been able to commit to marriage ultimately meets Miss Right, and then finds out that she’s a infamous axe murderess! Myers is ingratiating and hilarious in a second role as his own contrary Scottish dad however the film by no means switches into high gear. Cameos by such recognizable funny men as Charles Grodin, Steven Wright, Phil Hartman, and Michael Richards appear mainly unnecessary. Cast includes Mike Myers, Nancy Travis, Anthony LaPaglia, Amanda Plummer, Brenda Fricker, Debi Mazar, and Matt Doherty. (93 minutes,’93)

The Sea Gypsies: Fine family venture has Logan cruising round the globe with his young family. Becoming shipwrecked in Alaska becomes the ultimate adventure. Cast includes Robert Logan, Heather Rattray, Mikki Jamison-Olsen, Shannon Saylor, and Damitri Patterson. (101 minutes,’78)

Chad Henne Steps Up for the Miami Dolphins

Posted on Thursday, November 19, 2009 in Entertainment

The Miami Dolphins are coming of one of the greatest one season turn around’s in NFL history, 1-15 in 07′, 11-5 in 08′ with a AFC East Division title. Things seem a bit different so far this year.

The 09′ season for the Miami Dolphins has been nothing like 08′. Statistically, Chad Pennington is the most accurate passer of all-time. While he might not have the “big arm”, he finds his receivers when they are open.

With Chad Pennington out the rest of the season, the Dolphins season seems to be over before it really began. It’s hard to win in the NFL when you have uncertainties at the QB position.

Things looked promising for 2009, until the Dolphins lost their first three games. Things looked even worse, when during their third game, the team lost Pennington for the season.

Hasselbeck Out For Seattle Seahawks

Posted on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in Entertainment

The Seattle Seahawks seem to be poised for a bounce back year, following a disappointing 2008 campaign that saw the team finish with a losing record. They’ve made some changes; most importantly their new head coach Jim Mora.

Much of the reason for the team’s horrible 2008 season can be assigned to the fact that Matt Hasselbeck, the team’s long time quarterback, was lost for much of the season due to injury. Doesn’t look like he’ll be able to stay healthy throughout this season either.

Matt Hasselback has played ok but suffered a rib injury. It is yet to be determined if this will be a lingering injury that will hurt his entire 09′ season. If the team expects to improve on their 4-12 season, Hasselback must start more then 7 games, as he did in 08′.
